An account of Sir Frederick Cavendish Ponsonby at the Battle of Waterloo.
Ponsonby (His second cousin was William Ponsonby who died leading the Scots Greys famous charge in the same battle) was wounded seven times, suffering disability in both arms, a sabre cut to his head, a penetrating wound to his chest from a lancer, being several times roughly handled as he was searched for plunder, ridden over and cast around by the Prussian cavalry and then when eventually taken to a farm by way of medical treatment being relieved of three and a half litres of blood by the doctor caring for him. Despite everything, he survived, was befriended by the Duke of Wellington, promoted and married and, remarkably, 12 years later met up with the French officer who had offered him kindness on the battlefield.
