Nicola Sampieri, a Regency composer, created a new way of performing music and toured Britain performing music upon an entirely new plan - now we call it Son et Lumiere.
His posters advertised it thus:
"In order to gratify Audiences more highly, and add grandeur to the effect of the music, the room will be decorated with TRANSPARENCIES - with EVENING will be displayed a Transparency, of Jupiter, Venus and other stars, MIDNIGHT with a view of the Moon gradually rising, AURORA and DAYLIGHT by the Notes of the various birds, in a surprising manner. The Stars and the Moon will then gradually disappear and Daylight be followed with the Sun rising in splendour."
Other pieces in the performance would depict the Four Seasons of the year, a Sea Storm, the Judgment of Pluto and "Le Roy a la Chasse" all with additional effects such as thunder and lightning.
