The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved a 4.75% rate increase for Pennsylvania American Water customers, which can take effect starting Aug. 13. The increase is smaller than the roughly 15% rate hike the company originally requested.
At the same time, Pennsylvania American Water is beginning a $4 million project to upgrade its Fairview Township North and South wastewater treatment plants.
The project will modernize treatment equipment, chemical treatment systems, chemical handling areas and solids-processing equipment. The company said the upgrades are designed to improve reliability, enhance safety and better protect local waterways.
CBS 21 spoke with several customers about the upcoming rate increase, and reactions were mixed.
