It wouldn't be a Google I/O without Sundar Pichai spouting something about AI or making cringe jokes about AI. Google I/O this year was probably the worst because absolutely nothing of value exists for the average person except one thing—the nonsensical statistics of Google trying to justify their copious AI spending. Think about it, everybody and their mother uses Google and when they give numbers saying A QUARTER OF THE GLOBAL POPULATION OF THE WORLD uses Gemini and the AI features, it inclines me to believe they are just fudging the numbers to make it look more popular than it actually is. On top of that, Google Drive and Gmail continue shove AI writing, generation, and inbox management down your throat and Google actually never specifies what is classified as a "user." Since Google is being charitable, that means by this logic everyone who uses Gmail, Google Drive, Search, and the countless people with Android where Gemini is preinstalled are all "using AI." Don't forget about those AI summaries I want removed from YouTube, so I must be an AI user too! Then there's also the more insidious incentives to future proof their business while they chart unregulated territory. At the end of the day, this means that Google is going to continue to get worse. Their products will continue to get worse. Hooray for platform decay!
