0% CONTAINED ! Spokane, Washington is burning. The Old Trails Fire started just before noon Saturday near Old Trails Road and West Euclid, north of Airway Heights. Within hours it burned through Riverside State Park, jumped the Spokane River, and moved into the Indian Trail and Five Mile Prairie neighborhoods of northwest Spokane. By Sunday: 640 structures destroyed, 0% contained.
Two more fires followed — the Fairview Fire near Mead, and the Autumn Lane Fire near Suncrest and Five Mile Falls. All three are now managed as one incident: the Spokane Area Fires.
~60,000 evacuated inside city limits. ~40,000 lost power. The Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center was evacuated. 409 families sheltered at the Spokane Convention Center. Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide emergency and activated the National Guard. Statewide: 15 major fires, 250,000+ acres.
