It's our first full day in Washington DC and we decide to head out to the district of Georgetown in the NW of the capitol, close to the potomac river and home of Georgetown university. It's a very hilly area on a steep rise from the river until you reach the university lawns (we didn't realise they refer to the university locally as "the hilltop"), and some of the streets at the west end of the waterfront park that go up towards the university proved too steep to negotiate and we had to back track to find one more accessible - still steep though! The university campus is amazing to see, with some of its buildings dating back to the late 1800's, and the riverside walk is both picturesque and peaceful.
