IF YOU SUSPECT RABIES, DO NOT APPROACH! CALL A PROFESSIONAL IMMEDIATELY! Vaccinate your pets, this suffering is unnecessary. This is hard to watch.
Most people are unaware that not all stages may be exhibited, including the well known aggressive stage. Rabies is extremely dangerous. There is no cure once the symptoms begin to show. The WHO has information on the 7 levels of rabies danger. Please alert children & adults who may not know. The cat was found under a water tank. It was unresponsive to calls, sounds (cars / motorcycles passing on the other side of the wall), & most of the time, to people. The cat knew the videographer. This was taken about 100 meters from where "Rabid Dog" was videoed 12 years before. This area is proven to have rabies sources.
The owner asked a friend to get it (it was from the next street over). While the friend was trying to pick up the cat, she was heard to repeat, "How come you keep trying to bite me?" "Stop biting me." "You know me." She placed the cat in a carrier and took it.
The next day, the owner & friend came back; the cat had run off again. The two women were strongly encouraged to get rabies vaccines.
Update: The cat was found dead 2 days later. There was no autopsy.
*The local vet said from the video he could not confirm rabies without the autopsy, but said the symptoms were a fit.
++ Clinical Clues Suggesting Rabies Over Other Causes
* Unvaccinated cat (True)
* Recent bite wound (Unknown, but cat was exposed to other cats/wildlife. There is a wound on its back in the video.)
* Acute onset (True)
* Rapid progression (days) (True)
* Combination of:
* Behavior change (True. It never ran off before.)
* Cranial nerve deficits (Likely)
* Dysphagia (Likely)
* Progressive paralysis (True)
* No improvement with supportive care (True, died)
* Wildlife exposure (True. Rabies proven in that area.)

Category I–Touching or feeding animals, licks on intact skin. Per the WHO, no shots are required, but I would certainly see a doctor.
Category II–Nibbling of uncovered skin, minor scratches or abrasions without bleeding. Requires immediate vaccination & local treatment of the wound
Category III–Single or multiple transdermal bites or scratches, licks on broken skin; contamination of mucous membrane with saliva from licks, contacts with bats. Requires immediate vaccination & administration of rabies immunoglobulin; local treatment of the wound

The initial symptoms of rabies are mild, but quickly become serious.
THE INCUBATION PERIOD for rabies is usually 2 to 12 weeks, although it can be as short as 4 days.
The closer the site of infection is to your brain, the shorter the incubation period. For example, a bite to the face, head or neck will have a shorter incubation period than a bite to an arm or leg.
THIS IS THE ONLY PERIOD IN WHICH TREATMENT CAN BE SUCCESSFUL!
INITIAL SYMPTOMS of rabies are often vague, & can easily be mistaken for other less serious types of infection. They include:
a high temperature of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or above
chills
fatigue (extreme tiredness)
problems sleeping
lack of appetite
headache
irritability
anxiety
sore throat
vomiting
Around half the people will also experience pain & a tingling sensation at the site of the infection.
ADVANCED SYMPTOMS
Initial symptoms of rabies last for 2 to 10 days before more severe symptoms start to develop. There are 2 types of advanced rabies:
Furious rabies, which accounts for 4 out of 5 cases
Dumb or paralytic rabies, which accounts for the remainder of cases
FURIOUS RABIES is characterized by episodes of increasingly odd & hyperactive behavior, separated by periods of relative calm. During these episodes a person may have some or all of the following signs & symptoms:
Aggressive behavior, such as thrashing out or biting
Agitation
Hallucinations – seeing or hearing things that are not real
Delusions – believing things that are obviously untrue
Excessive production of saliva
High temperature (fever)
Excessive sweating
The hair on their skin stands up
A sustained erection (in men)
DUMB OR PARALYTIC RABIES
Dumb rabies (paralytic rabies), is characterized by muscle weakness, loss of sensation & paralysis (inability to move one or more muscles). This usually begins in the hands & feet before spreading throughout the body.
Hydrophobia is unusual in cases of dumb rabies, although muscles may go into spasm. As with furious rabies, someone with dumb rabies will fall into a coma & eventually die from heart or lung failure.
