Walnut is the 50th rescued sea turtle successfully rehabilitated and released this season! ✨🐢
It was a very special day for our sea turtle rehab team after a long journey getting Walnut ready for release. 💚 Walnut is a juvenile, green sea turtle, who was found floating in Madeira Beach and arrived at Clearwater Marine Aquarium on April 18th with a thin body, fibropapilloma tumors, and an old injury on its plastron, or underside, which was not healed properly. To help with the old injury, our veterinarian performed a procedure to trim the plastron, allowing the wound to heal again properly with daily cold laser treatments. Once Walnut regained a healthy weight, they also underwent surgery to remove the fibropapilloma tumors around its body. Walnut made a full recovery after his medical procedures and was cleared for release by our veterinarian and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
