In case you are wondering, YES! You can make visual effects (VFX) in PowerPoint!
Should you use PowerPoint to make VFX? Why not? Many people have the software already and it is indeed possible if you know how ;-) And if you take your time it can look good enough (for personal projects, at least).
In this PowerPoint tutorial I teach how to make a wall break VFX using two image files: one of a balcony and another of the outside view. Then we crop the wall out using the freeform tool and the merge shapes features. I used this effect here:

In that video I also do some frame by frame masking for my leg. But I don't cover that part here. I also made it feel more like an explosion by adding some sound effects.
