This London walking tour of fantastic historic churches outside the City of London starts at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London's West End. There has been a church on this site since the middle ages and the current building dates from the 18th Century. We move past Charing Cross to the Savoy Chapel on Savoy Hill built on the site of John of Gaunt's palace and the last surviving building of a hospital completed in 1515. Walking along Aldwych to Bloomsbury we visit Nicholas Hawksmoor's impressive St George's Bloomsbury - the great architect's final London church. Theobald's Road and Gray's Inn Road take us to the serene St Alban the Martyr with it's amazing mural by Hans Freibusch and peaceful courtyard garden. Our final church is probably the most storied. St Etheldreda's sits in what was the grounds of the palace of the Bishops of Ely. The church dates from 1290 and contain's a mysteries stone font believed to date from the Romano British period.
