![Gene Getz on Reaching the Other Side of Illness and Depression
When COVID-19 threatened to take his life, Gene Getz did not give up. Instead, he allowed the experience to renew his relationship with his family and friends and to remind others that God is always faithful.
Gene Getz, author of The Measure of a Man, is director for the Center for Church Renewal and is pastor of Fellowship Bible Church, Plano, Texas. He is also an adjunct professor in pastoral studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.
In this episode, Gene and Ken talk about Gene’s bout with COVID-19 and how in the midst of hardship and depression, it is important to seek out and recognize God’s faithfulness. Ken and Gene also discuss The Measure of a Man turning 50 and how it has impacted lives all over the globe for the last half-century.
“We can be thankful in all things that God hasnt forsaken us… Im not sure Im in a position to say, ‘Lord, I just thank you for giving me this horrible COVID experience.’ But Im thankful that he hasnt forsaken me. Hes given me a new appreciation of my family. A new appreciation of prayer, a new appreciation of humility.” - Gene Getz
“Anywhere in the world that you go – the heart of Africa, to the heart of India, to the heart of China, the qualities [in The Measure of a Man] are a reflection of Jesus Christ. And thats why its never gone out of print, because those qualities are super cultural.” - Gene Getz
