This advice came from P Berry Brazelton who did a āscientific studyā funded by Pampers that very unscientifically decided parents should wait for signs of readiness before potty training. Why?
Because no mom wanted to put their baby in paper bottoms! They preferred cloth.
So the diaper companies began marketing to momsā heartstrings and straight up lied to us TO SELL THEIR PRODUCTS and tripled kidsā time spent in diapers.
I hope youāre not too surprised!
But in 1957 - four years before disposable diapers were introduced to market - 92% of American babies were fully potty trained BY 18 months and now the average age is 36-39 months.
And you can guess, yeah, babies havenāt changed much in our human evolutionā¦
So common sense would say we donāt HAVE TO wait for readiness.
What DOES it take to fully potty train (and be out diapers sooner)??š āa toddler in diapers āa parent who is done changing diapers āa toddler who can throw a tantrum and/or tell you if theyāre hungry (non verbal is aok) āa parent who has a plan and knows what theyāre doing.
