In this video I share how to crochet the Waffle Stitch Square and Rectangle in the round. I also share tips that helped me to easily memorize the pattern that I hope will help you too.

🧶 Waffle Stitch Square
Round 1 (RS):
Begin with a magic ring (or ch 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring).
Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc, ch 1 into the ring.
Work (2 dc, ch 1) 3 times into the ring.
Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
(8 dc, 4 ch-1 spaces)

Round 2 (WS):
Turn, sl st into ch-1 sp.
Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in same sp (corner made), fpdc around next 2 dc.
*(Dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp, fpdc around next 2 dc; rep from * 2 more times.
Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Sl st into ch-1 sp.
(16 dc, 4 corner ch-1 sps)

Round 3 (RS):
Ch 3 (counts as dc) and turn. Fpdc around next dc.
*Dc in each of next 2 sts, fpdc around next st, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch-1 sp (corner made), fpdc around next dc; repeat from * 2 more times.
Dc in each of next 2 sts, fpdc around next st. In final corner, work (2 dc, ch 1, dc).
Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
(32 dc, 4 corner ch-1 sps)

Round 4 (WS):
Turn. Sl st over to ch-1 sp.
Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in same ch-1 sp (corner made).
Fpdc around next 2 dc.
* Repeat [dc in next st, fpdc around each of next 2 dc] to next ch-1 sp,
(dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp, fpdc around next 2 dc; repeat from * around, omitting last ch-1 sp. Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
(40 dc, 4 ch-1 sps )

Round 5 (RS):
Sl st into ch-1 sp.
Ch 3 (counts as dc) and turn. Fpdc around next dc.
* Repeat [dc in each of next 2 sts, fpdc around next dc] to next ch-1 sp,
(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch-1 sp (corner made), fpdc around next dc; rep from * around.
In final ch-1 sp, work (2 dc, ch 1, dc) and join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
(56 dc, 4 ch-1 sps)

Continue alternating Round 4 and Round 5.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

🧶 Waffle Stitch Rectangle

Foundation Chain:
Ch a multiple of 3 + 6 (Example: 15 + 6= Ch 21)
Round 1 (RS):
Dc in 5th ch from hook (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in same ch, ch 1, dc in same ch (corner made).
Dc in each ch across to last ch.
In last ch: (dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, dc) — corner made.
Rotate to work along opposite side of foundation chain.
Dc in first st, *fpdc around next st, dc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * across, ending with dc in last st.
Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Sl st into next ch-1 corner sp.
(Each corner has 4 dc: 1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc — with waffle pattern established along one side.)

Round 2 (WS):
Sl st in to ch-1 sp, turn.
Ch 3 (counts as dc).
Fpdc around each of next 2 sts, *dc in next st, fpdc around each of next 2 sts; rep from * to ch-1 sp.
(Dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 corner sp, fpdc around each of next 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp.
Fpdc around each of next 2 sts.
Repeat (dc in next st, fpdc around each of next 2 sts) to next ch-1 sp.
(Dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 corner sp, fpdc around each of next 2 sts, (dc, ch 1) in ch-1 sp.
Sl st to top of beg ch-3 to join.
(Each round increases by 8 stitches now and throughout)

Round 3 (RS):
Turn and sl st to ch-1 corner sp.
Ch 3, dc in same ch-1 sp, ch 1, 2 dc in same ch-1 sp (corner made), fpdc around next dc.
* Repeat [dc in each of next 2 sts, fpdc around next dc] to next ch-1 sp,
(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch-1 sp, fpdc around next dc; rep from * around, omitting final ch-1 sp.
Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.

Round 4 (WS):
Sl st to corner ch-1 sp, turn,
Ch 3 (counts as dc).
Fpdc around each of next 2 sts.
* Repeat [dc in next st, fpdc around each of next 2 sts] to next ch-1 sp,
(dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 corner sp, fpdc around each of next 2 sts; rep from * around.
In final ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1) and join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
Turn and sl st to ch-1 corner sp.
Continue alternating Round 3 and Round 4 .

Fasten off and weave in ends.
