Sue Kato was born in Nebraska and later moved with her family to Greeley, Colorado, in 1938 to buy land. This was something they could not do in Nebraska. She joined the WACs in 1943. Along with 47 other Nisei women, Sue attended the Military Intelligence Service Language School in Minnesota. In this Hanashi Oral History clip from June 2006, Sue describes why she joined the U.S. Army and the reaction from her family.
