Okay that should be enough blocking for commentary - should go without saying, there's Lv2 Spoilers for Void Stranger ahead! You have been lightly warned!

Anyhow... This is a video of Void Stranger, a recent release from System Erasure. Their previous game, Zer0Ranger, is lauded and criticized for its approach to shmup gameplay, (though I cannot speak on the game's content from personal experience) and Void Stranger keeps this going, not allowing a genre-shift from "vertical-scrolling score-shooter" to "tile-grabbing sokoban" slow their roll. If you can handle its eccentricities and occasionally-abrasive game design (eg "how much sokoban is too much", "isn't this first part just the plot of Berserk", or "where is my Undo button"), then this is easily worth looking into. Though if you wanna look into this game without spoilers? It goes without saying you should stop watching now 😉

This video specifically shows part of a playthrough of Void Stranger's second playable character, Lillie, going through the floors of some kinda Hell because a demon spooked 'em into a pit. Rather rude, really. We're going through most of the 7th set of floors in the game, which is somewhat tough for Gray with the introduction of the lightning statues, but is tortuous for the modern-era character as everything is far more finely tuned... for an unburdened player, at the least. The collection of burdens (the Void Wings and Void Sword in particular) makes her trek through the depths less horrid, but this set of floors introduces an NPC to save: Ninnie.

Void Stranger brings some characters in from time to time that the player can opt to save or kill - some of 'em are simple enough to help out (keep enemies at bay, make a path to the exit, and listen to their plight), but others are a bit tougher, requiring a chase scene or even taking a death to get them down the stairs. Ninnie might not be quite as nebulous to save as a sulking teenager who refuses your help, but she's easily the toughest to save on a gameplay level - if you choose to help her, you'll need to make her a path to the exit, where on using the stairs, she'll have tailed you through to the next floor. With burdens, this is a tough challenge, but fairly manageable as some of the nastier tricks'n'traps can be skipped. The goal is to lead her through 19 levels without leaving her behind or killing her (accidentally or otherwise)

The reward for bringing her along is a decent amount of chatter between the two, as well as the 16 lives (here in the form of locusts) she hands over at the start for bringing her along. There's also the lovely feeling one gets from helping out an ally in the depths when everything's looking grim.

(as for why not the first couple of floors? I started recording on B171 and wanted to get straight to the important stuff, which DOES include B172 given how it shows a statue mechanic for later...)
