The Marathon's colonists began experiencing the nightmares after they first scanned what lay beneath the perimeter. From then on New Cascadia was haunted by dreams that all shared a consistent theme. The dead were coming back to haunt the living on Tau Ceti IV. All of them came with the same grim tidings of doom, implying that the colonists had made a grave error and that all of them were doomed. Even the various AIs of the colony, such as Joy, were not spared from the terrible wrath of the strange nightmares that plagued the inhabitants of Tau Ceti IV.
