Antonio Vivaldi’s Winter, from The Four Seasons, transformed into a grand epic orchestral and choir version arranged and produced by Idan Schneider. This cinematic orchestral arrangement expands the famous first movement, Allegro non molto, into a darker, larger old-world spectacle of icy strings, dramatic brass, timpani, and powerful choir.

Vivaldi’s Winter is one of the most vivid musical storms of the Baroque era. The music does not merely describe cold weather, it seems to place the listener inside it: trembling strings, icy winds, restless motion, and sudden flashes of danger. Vivaldi’s genius lies in how directly the music paints the scene, turning nature itself into drama.

Published in 1725 as part of Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione, The Four Seasons became one of the most recognizable works in the classical repertoire because it speaks in images as much as in notes. Each season feels like a living world, filled with atmosphere, movement, and human emotion. Winter is perhaps the most severe of them all: austere, beautiful, and merciless.

For this version, I wanted to keep Vivaldi’s storm at the center, but enlarge it into something more monumental: not modern trailer music, but a grand symphonic and choral spectacle. The arrangement expands the original Baroque intensity with powerful strings, sharp staccatos, dramatic brass, timpani, and epic choir, giving the movement a darker and more mythological character.

The visuals are inspired by Baroque and Neoclassical art, echoing the dramatic worlds of Rubens, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and other masters of shadow, movement, and myth. I imagined the music as a mythological winter: mortals and ancient gods standing before a gathering storm of lightning, thunder, snow-covered forests, and divine wrath.
