Cable-Suspended Aerial Manipulator (SAM) is an aerial robot developed at DLR that is designed to perform manipulation tasks in areas where humans find it difficult to reach. This demo shows SAM performing advanced aerial manipulation tasks namely a precision peg-in-hole, and a pick-and-place of pipe inspection robot. A key technology that enables this demonstration is a telepresence concept where SAM’s onboard visual and inertial sensors provide its operator a real-time virtual reality of the real remote scene. In particular, the field demonstration shows SAM as a viable platform for the future industrial inspection and maintenance applications.
