Nintendo brought back the Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2… and somehow I didn’t go blind. In this review, I’m talking about the new $99 Virtual Boy headset, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Virtual Boy library, and the two Mario Day additions: Mario Clash and Mario’s Tennis. Nintendo says the service requires the Virtual Boy accessory or cardboard model plus Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, and the current library launched with 7 games before adding the two Mario titles on March 10.
I also look back at the original 1995 Virtual Boy, why I skipped it back then, how this new version compares, and whether this weird little Nintendo experiment is actually worth the money in 2026.
