I watched a video about lightgun games earlier in the week (thanks @RetroRalph ) and it got me nostalgic for some rootin' tootin' shootin' good times!
So here's some externally recorded video of Virtua Cop 3 running on CXBXR emulator (an old version) being played with an Aimtrak Lightgun. Virtua Cop 3 is a Sega Chihiro arcade game, an early 2000's arcade system that was basically an original Xbox with extra RAM and, up until a few years back, the only way to play Virtua Cop 3 at home (apart from buying an actual arcade cabinet) was to own a specially modified original Xbox with extra RAM that you had to solder in yourself. I'm playing the game here using CXBXR OG Xbox emulator.
For some reason I was having a few audio visuals gremlins here (the screen occasionally going black and the sound cutting out), that haven't previously occurred when I've been playing the game with my joypad in some of the older VC3 videos I've uploaded (you can see one here running without issue: youtu.be/1r3JxokLIZA ) - not sure if it's the Aimtrak causing this or if my PC's just being a knob. A couple of times later in the game I seemed to lose sight of where my cursor had gone too. Curious...
A known issue with the emulated game is a weird screen obscuring artefact that happens towards the end of the second level, so I decided to call it a day there. There is a fix for this, where you replace a file called spr_effect.xts in the VirtuaCop3/media folder, which I thought I'd done awhile back, but maybe not seeing as the glitch still happened...
It's a real shame this never got ported to home consoles. The original Xbox would've been a natural home for it, as other Chihiro games like Outrun 2 and House of the Dead 3 got ported and, despite the lack of extra RAM, appeared to be very faithful conversions. Plus the OG Xbox had a gert huge, awesome CRT lightgun that doubled up as a sniper rifle and shotgun, courtesy of the Silent Scope Complete collection - you can see me using my old one here on my old CRT TV before I got rid of it:

The PS3 would've also been a good porting choice too in my mind, as both Sega and Namco released several on-rails shooters on the console, like HOTD 3 & 4, HOTD Overkill, Time Crisis 4, Time Crisis Raizing Storm and Deadstorm Pirates. I'd have loved to have played VC3 with my PS Moves.
Despite being a big fan of the Virtua Cop series back in the day (I owned both of the first two games on the Saturn as well as a Justifier light gun), I never actually got to play this one in the arcade, I never even so much as encountered a VC3 cabinet out in the wild. I really like the new ES mode Matrix stylee 'Bullet Time' bits where you can slow down time and shoot the bad guys' bullets out of the air. I actually had my keyboard setup on the floor as I was playing it here, using it like one of the foot pedals on a Time Crisis cabinet, and was activating the ES mode using the spacebar with my big toe!
Oh, and one last thing to mention: The very nice icon you can see in my thumbnail image next to the gun was created by me old chum Pooterman, which you can obtain (along with lots of other excellent icons) from his DeviantART page.
