I discuss one of my all time favorite soundtracks: Wang Chung's TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA. Released as the band's next album in 1985 it remains their masterpiece. They far exceeded even William Friedkin's expectations who had liked their previous album POINTS ON THE CURVE so much that he commissioned them to do the score.
All of the band's albums from this period had exceptionally well done vinyl pressings mostly mastered by Greg Fulginiti at Artisan Sound. They remain essential bargain bin vinyl records with great sound and amazing material. The soundtrack album is also interestingly divided with the vocal tracks on Side 1 and the instrumentals on Side 2. The only thing missing is the band's previous hit "Dance Hall Days" which is featured in one scene of the film. Thus it is highly recommended to pick up a vinyl copy of POINTS ON THE CURVE or one of the 12" singles featuring equally excellent mastering.
This is perhaps the definitive 80's score for the definitive 80's film. The images and sounds are so interconnected that it is impossible to think of one without the other. Ultimately both film and score remain electric and absolutely hypnotic.

I also discuss the pressing of POINTS ON THE CURVE plus the other variants and 12" singles I've picked up over the years. I've not yet found any of the UK/European 12" which also have some additional alternate mixes of some of the single tracks.
