Welcome back to The Old Cookbook Show! Today, we're diving into a unique recipe from Cooking Around the World and At Home, a vintage church community cookbook featuring homestyle favourites from the 1940s. Today’s recipe? Hominy Pork Chop Casserole, a simple yet intriguing dish straight from Texas that combines hominy, pork chops, and a touch of milk.
Join me as I explore this retro casserole that’s packed with nostalgic flavours. We’ll talk about sourcing hominy, how it affects the pork chops, and the regional history behind ingredients like grits and hominy. Plus, I’ll share my thoughts on how this dish could be updated for modern kitchens. Whether you’re a vintage recipe enthusiast or just looking for an easy weeknight dinner idea, this one’s a must-try!
Let me know in the comments if you've tried a similar recipe, or if hominy casserole is still popular where you live. Thanks for watching and see you next Sunday for more culinary history!
