Pranav Ranjit | Väinö Raitio - Fantasia estatica (Score Video) @towardthesea_ | Uploaded February 2023 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste
Väinö Raitio (1891-1945) was a Finnish modernist composer who is little known today, largely due to the prominence of National Romanticism in Finnish art music of the early 1900s. For more on Raitio, see the description in my score video of his Toccata: youtube.com/watch?v=uVWY4-CfJLs
Written in 1921, the "Fantasia estatica" is one of Raitio's best known works and, like the other music of his middle period, bears the strong influence of Scriabin. However, it is a captivating piece in its own right, containing orchestrational nuances and a dark, uncertain mood that are uniquely Raitio's.
This is the third of my Raitio uploads, and I plan to upload his "Fantasia poetica" as well when I can. I hope these score videos will bring this talented composer, long forgotten outside Finland, to the attention of listeners around the world!
