Columbia Daily Spectator | Vigil for Tayshana Murphy aims to stop gun violence @ColumbiaSpecVideo | Uploaded September 2014 | Updated October 2024, 16 hours ago.
On Thursday, Taylonn Murphy retraced the last steps his daughter took before she was shot in the hallway of her building three years ago. The murder of 18-year-old Tayshana "Chicken" Murphy was the result of a 40-year dispute between the Grant and Manhattanville Houses, two housing projects on opposite sides of Old Broadway, between 125th and 126th streets. For Taylonn Murphy, Thursday's candlelight vigil was not only a celebration of his daughter's life, but also an effort to bring together the community and stop the violence.
