As 2019 came to an end, I started thinking about my favourite stay of the year. It didn't take long for me to settle on a place - Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge in Vietnam's stunning Yen Bai province. We loved it so much we created a new award - The Busted Compass - for people and places doing cool stuff in travel. Not only is this place a delight, it's an important model for tourism development as Vietnam's fragile far north faces ever greater tourism development pressure.
