His teachers included Jean-Théodore Radoux (counterpoint and fugue) and Sylvain Dupuis (harmony). He then went to Paris to take lessons with Vincent d'Indy. In 1901 he was appointed as teacher of harmony at the Schola Cantorum de Paris, the institute of D'Indy, Alexandre Guilmant and Charles Bordes that was particularly active with the study of early music. In 1904, Vreuls and Bordes founded the concert organization 'Camera', specialized in early music. In the same year, Vreuls was awarded the 'Prix Eugène Ysaÿe' for his symphony for violin and orchestra.

In 1906 he was appointed as the first director of the newly founded Conservatoire de Musique de la Ville de Luxembourg. In addition, his international conducting career took off. In 1925 he was admitted to the Académie royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts de Belgique. Due to health problems, he had to give up his position in Luxembourg in 1926.
