Hello VGM residents! With how time flies by recently, I wasn’t able to put more thought into this channel due to a larger circumstance of life itself. On a positive note, I did managed to upload one full soundtrack from an EyeToy franchise, so do check it out when you’re free. Anyhoo, let’s get down to business, shall we?

Recently, I have noticed that everyone has gotten to know Phoenix Games through the gesture of distributing shovelware from the past as a publisher. Like it or not, they have contributed a lot of great music tracks if you know where to find them (Exp: Skateboard Madness Xtreme Edition, Girl Zone, Power Volleyball, etc.). In this case for Downhill Slalom, it’s quite a mixed bag, but that’s my interpretation of it, so make of that what you will as a VGM connoisseur.

In terms of gameplay, you are given the choice of choosing one of five characters for a course. Two of which are unlocked from the start of the game itself. In the game modes, you have three modes to play entirely.

The first mode is “Slalom: Race against the clock while navigating every gate. Miss five, and you're disqualified.”

The second mode is “Token Dash: An arcade mode where you gather coins and use power-ups like magnets and speed boosts to gain an edge.”

Lastly, “Sprint: A pure, uninterrupted speed trial straight to the finish line. Hence, no distractions at all, just racing.”

From the contents of the game itself, I would say it’s quite bare bones from the gist of it, but I don't want to criticize the game further, as several people may likely have fond memories of it. Ultimately, you should do what's best for you, as my perspective is probably just an outlier compared to how everyone else remembers it.

Reviewing this track, I cannot be able to say much except it’s okay from what I have listened to. Not the best but not the worst as well. The stunning part that I liked from this track is around the timestamp of 1:25 which seals the deal of being a great track and driving force of chiptune drops and aggressive synth behind it. Reminds me a little from TimeSplitters 2’s chrono-espionage main theme itself. You’ll see what I mean once you compare each side.

With these final points considered, my final rating is 4 out of 10. Passing by, here’s a quote I admire from Jimmy Hopkins after finishing Bully on the PS2 and thank you for listening! “When people say bad things about what I do, I like to prove them wrong. I like to show that they massively underestimated the force that they were dealing with and then really give him/them something to complain about.”
