Vestigial Sideband Modulation:
In Vestigial Sideband Modulation, the Vestige or some portion of the unwanted sideband is also transmitted along with the desired sideband.
Therefore, the required bandwidth for Vestigial sideband is a little more (typically 25 to 30 % more) than Single Sideband Modulation. But since it does not require a filter with a sharp cut-off, the generation technique is a little simple than SSB.
The Vestigial sideband modulation is a compromise between the DSB-SC and SSB. And in the early days, this technique was used for the transmission of the TV signal.
For the generation and demodulation of VSB signal, the proper design of VSB filter is very important. In this video, the desired characteristics of the VSB filter are also discussed.
