The ETV process consists of five steps: application, pre-verification, verification, reporting, and post-verification.
The process is carried out by a verification body or 'VB'. Be prepared for frequent interaction throughout the process.
Step 1 is the application.
To apply, you need to contact the ‘VB’ accredited to perform ETV.
Prepare a clear description of your technology, including its unique name, purpose, the matrix for which it is intended, and the scope and conditions of its use. Explain how it works, the problems it solves, and the benefits and innovation it offers compared to competitors. Also, propose an initial performance claim that you wish to verify.
Next, describe the most significant positive differences in environmental added value between your technology and similar solutions. Indicate at which technology life stage they are most likely to occur. Provide supporting documents and data that showcase the stable performance of your technology and its market readiness. Remember, all your information is confidential.
The ‘VB’ experts may seek further clarifications to ensure a thorough understanding of your technology before declaring its eligibility for ETV and advancing to step 2: pre-verification.
In pre-verification, you and the ‘VB’ agree on the parameters to be verified in order to back up your performance claim. Your initial claim may need to be modified after a review of the application. The ‘VB’ then develops a specific verification protocol which outlines how the claimed performance will be verified. This document specifies the parameters to be tested, the testing methods, and the conditions to be ensured during the testing.
Once the protocol is finalised and agreed upon, we move to step 3: verification.
The ‘VB’ analyses the available test data on your technology's performance to determine if it works as intended. If you possess test data that aligns with the requirements outlined in the specific verification protocol, it can be utilised. Otherwise, you need to contact an independent test body to conduct the necessary testing.
Step 4 is reporting. The VB assesses the test data and produces a verification report summarising the conducted process together with a statement of verification, presenting the verified performance of your technology. Both documents will be provided to you.
The process concludes with step 5: post-verification.
The ‘VB’ publishes your statement of verification for example on a dedicated web site, making it publicly available.
