"A Sigh from Below" is the debut black curse from French coffin robbers Venefixion. 35 minutes of pestilent death metal with some black/thrash touches
If any of you guys follow this channel, you will remember that a while back I uploaded their demo and EP to my channel. I was a big fan of those 2, but fuck their debut turns everything up to 11. "A Sigh from Below" is a relentless and never-halting album, filled with speed and spite and black spells. There's a palpable sanguine desire throughout the whole runtime, this album feels like it wants to devour you alive.
Take my word: you will want to stay until the very end of the album, Venefixion pull off some truly unexpected tricks up to the last second....

![Mawkish Ingestion - The Craneal Hunger Seed [Full Demo - 1995]
Mawkish Ingestion were a short lived death metal band from Spain. Formed in 1994 and active until 1997, The Craneal Hunger Seed was the only release they ever put out.
Beefy and 0 bullshit death metal, straight up. Just low vocals, drum set carnage and raw guitars for 20 minutes. Think Immolations Dawn of Possession, early Sinister, Rottrevore or even Gorefest. A sweet find for any OSDM fan!

![Scattered Remains - Terminate All Rational Thought [Full Demo - 1993]
Scattered Remains were an American death/thrash metal band and Terminate All Rational Thought was their only recorded material.
By death/thrash I mean its mostly death/thrash instrumentals with clean, thrash-style vocals. I dont know if thats enough to go through your death metal filters, but it definitely passes mine. This demo is very hit or miss, or at least I feel like it is - but its also undoubtedly unique. The mix of powerful vox with characteristically death metal guitars adds up to create a neat sonic enviroment. Also, another thing that adds to the hit or miss aspect of this demo, due to the clean vocals and the mid-paced riffs, Scattered Remains sometimes, very briefly, reminded me of Alice in Chains. I dont know about you, but I love AiC, so I definitely didnt mind that.

![Hansened - Bones to Rotten Brains [Full Demo - 1996]
Today we have a really short one. Hanseneds debut demo, straight from Brazil, is a fine piece of good ol meat n potatoes mid 90s death metal. No frills, no experimentation, no nothing. Just pure death metal. You dont need more than that to be good! Bite sized death metal demo right here and I couldnt ask for much better...
I also uploaded their second demo a couple of years ago: https://youtu.be/aeJdTwFB_xk?si=k9IT4-YNT1YoPUiQ
Feels good to complete the collection!

![Porno - No God Your God [Full Demo - 1994]
Lets see if this video stays up for long....
Porno were a Canadian death metal band. Formed in 1992, they have released 3 demos and more recently, back in 2022, dropped a compilation of all their material.
This bands style takes mostly from the beefed up early 90s american style of death metal, just down tune and low gurgles. You can hear some sweet sweet sloppiness on their music, specially when the guitar player wants to play too many different notes in quick succession - I love that! One of my favourite aspects of old school basement recorded death metal!

![Acid Death - Promo Demo 1993 [Full Demo - 1993]
Acid Death are a currently progressive/technical death metal band from Greece. Between their formation in 89, their split-up in 2001 and their reformation in 2011, Acid Death released 5 full-lengths, 3 EPs and 3 demos, along with some splits and a couple of single releases.
Despite their current style being super techy and proggy, in their early years you can still hear the death/thrash-y groundwork that they started out with. They were always very technical and intricate with their riffs, sure, but manage it with a super straight forward finesse that doesnt really sound like wank bullshit to me - kind of in the same way as Ripping Corpse (actually, come to think of it, if youre into RC, youll definitely like early Acid Death!)
All in all, a super cool blend of thrashy death metal with early 90s technicality that unavoidably shows what this band would later evolve into.

![Curse - Demo 1993 [Full Demo - 1993]
Curse are a Swedish death metal band, have released 3 demos (this being their 3rd one), 1 LP and 1 compilation and are currently touring. Their original run lasted 7 years, from 1986 to 1993, during which they recorded the 3 demos. Years later, they got back together, recording their debut album and releasing it in 2017.
Their sound is a very curious one and reminds me of Ripping Corpse - not necessarily on the aggression (although Curse have their moments too), but more on the approach to death metal. Its a very technical and mechanical style of riffing sometimes and it perfectly balances the more straight forward moments (that never really stop being technical). It also has some bits where it could totally be described as progressive, but I wouldnt go as far as saying thats their main deal here.
These dudes definitely break the mold for Swedish death metal! A super interesting demo!

![Beyond Redemption - Christening [Full Demo - 1993]
Beyond Redemption were an Italian death metal band. Formed in 1992 and being active only until 1995, this demo was their first and last release.
Super grounded on those early 90s death metal classics, Christening is a super chunky demo, wouldve definitely been chunkier if the recording had a little more quality. However, Beyond Redemption arent straight forward all the time - some of their riffs have some super interesting technical undertone that almost goes unnoticed most of the time. Definitely a very competent band, the songwriting is fluid (except some song transitions but I can overlook that). Very interesting release!

![Deathtrap - Night Mare [Full Demo - 1987]
Despite this being a death metal focused channel, Ive always liked thrash metal. The earlier the better! Japan has an amazing scene with bands such as Casbah, Sacrifice, Rommel, Fastkill, Rosenfeld, etc... Deathtrap is in that exact same vein!
No frills, du-pa du-pa filled thrash metal with a guy thats just shouting somewhat broken english at the microphone. Its killer, its simple and straight to the point, theres no fucking around or whatever gimmicks you can think of. Pure unfiltered thrash the Japanese way, killer 11 mins...

![Vehement Thrower - Worm [Full Demo - 1991]
Vehement Thrower were a Polish death metal band. Formed in 1987 under Exhaust Death, they released 2 demos under that moniker, until in 1991 they changed name to Vehement Thrower. Afterwards, this demo was released and 1991 and their debut in 1993. Recently, Nuclear War Now! picked up on I Come in Peace, their debut, and re-issued it.
Had NWN! re-issued the demo, i would have definitely bought it. Incredibly aggressive, noisy and spiteful death metal. All of it packed in a 10min package, ready to deliver from start to end. You should also check their debut album out if you enjoy this.

![Surgical Dissection - The Inborn Malignance [Full Album - 1999]
Surgical Dissection were a brutal death metal band from Slovakia. They originally formed in 1993 as Dissection, changing their name to Surgical Dissection in 1996, and disbanding in 2014. In their runtime, the band released 2 demos and 4 full-lenghts, The Inborn Malignance being their debut.
This one screams late 90s brutal death, filled with technicality, batshit drumming, vomit-gurgling vocals and concise songwriting (I mean the album is 25 minutes long). No frills, no bullshit, straight to the point, face-bashing bdm. Tons of influences from Disgorge (US), Sepsism, Malignancy, Vomit Remnants and so on!

![Abraxas - By Way of Death [Full Demo - 1991]
Abraxas were an American thrash/death metal band. The band only released 2 demos in the 90s, this being their second and last.
By Way of Death opens with what is essentially a thrash metal song, but then the musically almosr suddenly changes to integrate their death metal influences. Its ferocious from the start but still manages to have a couple of slower, low-tempo moments that add diversity to their songwriting. Their style reminds me a lot of Inquisitor from the Netherlands - especially because of the extremly fast but sloppy (in a good way) d-beats and the unhinged shrieks the vocalist pulls off.
The original tape only had the first 4 tracks, but I got a hold of 5 extra live tracks, so I decided to include them here. It includes the first track from the demo, a Death cover and 2 extra tracks - Hanging from Abraxas Ressurection demo from 1990, and Swan Song which as far as i know was unheard in any other of their releases.
