The Mirror Signal Manoeuvre (MSM) is a driving technique that helps drivers communicate their intentions and ensure safe navigation. It involves three steps:
- Mirrors
Check your mirrors to see the speed and position of traffic behind you. This includes checking your left wing-mirror for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Signal
Use your car's indicators to let other drivers know you're about to maneuver. It's recommended to signal 30 meters before turning.
- Manoeuvre
Only maneuver if it's safe to do so. Make sure your position and speed are appropriate, and that you look and act on what you see.
The MSM technique should be used for all driving maneuvers, including changing lanes, turning, and reversing.
A common pitfall is forgetting to signal or signaling when it's unnecessary. Both of these can lead to points deducted on your test.
