A large-scale validation of the trajectory negotiation processes supported by FF-ICE/R2 with pilots, flight dispatchers, local flow managers and EUROCONTROL Network Manager (NM) operators took place last month at the EIH.
This "human-in-the-loop" exercise was part of Solution 2 of the SESAR Joint Undertaking Network Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO) project led by the EIH, and brought together more than 20 participants from key stakeholders - DSNA, ENAV, PANSA, Swiss International Air Lines, Thales, Airbus, FlightKeys, and the NM.
In the flight execution phase, supported by Flight and Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE) Release 2 information exchanges, ATM planning actors can follow trajectory negotiation processes that allow:
- airlines to negotiate flight plan changes during execution, involving both flight dispatchers and flight crews
- NM to assess network impacts and, when needed, provide counter proposals to prevent negative effects
- ATCOs to continue to do their job with an unchanged workload.
The exercise incorporated 6 prototypes developed by industrial partners.
