Valero’s Port Arthur Refinery through the Valero Benefit for Children (BFC) program funded the Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, the Beaumont Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, near Valero’s Port Arthur Refinery. The Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas have been operating in the region for 75 years.
The Baptist Beaumont Hospital treats around 27,000 children from the region each year through its inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. With support from the BFC through the years, the Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas has been able to fund much needed equipment and resources at the Beaumont hospital, including specialized NICU beds, children’s wheelchairs, and staff training. Most recently, BFC funding helped with development of a child play therapy center for the hospital’s behavioral health unit, the only children’s psychiatric unit between Houston and New Orleans. With the play therapy program, hospital staff can provide a resource for the families that they serve, helping children communicate through the language of play.
