Li-ion batteries used in EVs are lasting longer than initially expected. This opens possibilities for Vehicle to Grid (now deployed in several locations) and second use (happening world wide). I will review some of these cases. Nevertheless, there are many avenues that can be used to improve lithium-ion batteries in the areas of lifetime, energy density, tolerance to high temperature and cost.
