This #NationalGeologistDay, we’re leveling up with BLM’s very own Earth Elementalist, BLM UT Fillmore Field Office Geologist, Stephanie deGraffenried! 🌍⚒️
From ancient lava flows to future land use plans, Stephanie doesn’t just study the land—she rocks it.
BLM geologists are the bedrock of land management. With currently only 7 field geologists covering millions of acres across Utah, they're out there rain or shale, charting faults, classifying rocks, analyzing soil stability, and evaluating mineral resources to ensure safe and sustainable land use for future generations.
They help guide everything from mine permitting to rockhounding—because when it comes to managing public lands, every layer matters.
It’s tough terrain, but it’s a job that’s gneiss to have! 😎
