What are“thumbnails”? Picture small drawings, somewhere between the size of a postage stamp and a postcard. Because they are small, you can’t get caught up in the time-consuming drawing of lots of detail, which makes “thumbnail”-sized sketches great for figuring out things like perspective, overall composition and cropping, and even studying an approach to applying color. Thumbnail drawings can become a valuable part of your sketching process as they capture the essence of a place in sketches that are quick, loose, and full of energy. Not only are they powerful tools, but a collection of thumbnails beautifully tells a story!
