Iain Petrie | Using Topaz Gigapixel with rocket in Flash Gordon to create 6x upscaled video. But is it real?? @IKP1000 | Uploaded August 2022 | Updated October 2024, 23 hours ago.
I used Topaz gigapixel to create a 6x upscaled image of the enemy rocket ship in the very hard to find episode "Death in the Negative" from the mostly forgotten 1954 TV series of Flash Gordon, with Steve Holland as Flash.
The result was stunning, but the question many asked was: "Is it real?!"
Is the result a true reflection of what the original footage contained, or is is something created solely by the AI?
To answer the question, I processed 124 frames from the original video. If the discrete images produce a similar result, this is strong evidence that Gigapixel AI really is recovering hidden detail in the original images...
Here is the result of the experiment. The batch processing used here shows that you can use Gigapixel to enhance videos as well as images, but it's a very big job, and only practicable for very short clips! Comments and suggestions welcome.
