I often use super glue as a durable finish for pens, it is possibly the most durable finish that you can use to finish your woodturned pen. specifically I use Starbond thin CA with their accelerator, it works great and it works fast, there are steps that i go through to get the best possible finish and i only sand to 1200, i know that some people sand far beyond that but if you have the setup lke i have here you can achieve great results.
