If you put a breath-controlled filter in the signal path after any plugin (or sound source), you can add expression to it using breath control.
I'm using Voltage Modular here (the basic bundle is free and this is the free filter), but you could easily use something like the original TAL Filter which is another free plugin. Basically, same process with either... you need to map MIDI control to use breath to open and close the filter which your audio source is going through as an effects plugin. I've even run saxophone through a breath-controlled filter this way.
