When I was making these images, I wasnât just looking for an interesting subject. I was looking for a way to lead you through the pictures.
Photographers often call these leading lines. But I prefer to think of them as visual pathways, because they donât always have to be obvious lines.
A road can guide the eye. A river can guide the eye. A line of people, a row of trees, or even light and shadow can create a path through the frame.
Anything that encourages the viewer to keep exploring becomes part of the visual journey of a photograph.
