An MH-60 Jayhawk Helicoper and crew attached to Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (#OPBAT) rescued six people, Dec. 13, 2023 after their vessel sank about 30 miles north of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders received a request for assistance from the Dominican Republic Navy after six people on a raft were rescued by a Carnival Cruise Line vessel. The cruise line reported that six additional crew members from the vessel Two Brothers were still missing.
The Jayhawk aircrew arrived on the scene and began conducting search patterns near the sunken vessel’s onboard emergency position indicating radio beacon last reported location and located all six mariners hanging on to the debris of their sunken vessel.
The aircrew hoisted all six of the survivors onto the helicopter and transferred them to emergency medical services in Puerto Plata.
“The weather conditions were less than ideal,” said Lt. Cmdr. Jeb Slick, the mission’s copilot. “Our crew’s outstanding work ethic and dedication to training led to the successful rescue of these survivors.”
All 12 survivors were reported in good health with no unaccounted-for persons remaining.
