The Defence Headquarters says the planned drawdown of more than 200 United States security personnel supporting counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria will not disrupt ongoing efforts against insurgency and terrorism.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, gave the assurance during a joint inter-agency security and law enforcement briefing in Abuja.

According to the Defence Headquarters, the withdrawal should not be interpreted as a breakdown in the Nigeria-US security partnership, with key areas of cooperation including intelligence sharing and training expected to continue.
