I'm suppose to deliver a letter to the mayor in New Magencia, but the reward is 50 gold. Since I'm close to the max, I decided to tackle a side dungeon.
The Lyceum is a great area to go to because it has portals to all 8 major cities in the game.
You need ships for the latter half of the game, and you can steal them from pirates. All you have to do is touch a ship and defeat every pirate in battle.
The Buccaneer's Den sells magic boots that allow you to take less damage on lava. It also provides a helpful clue to reach the Cave of Pride.
There's also a cave here, and I think you can only go here once. Your rewards include a troll item, a trumpet, and a top. The troll item creates a troll for you (one use only.) The trumpet makes enemies friendly to you. It's also a one-use item. The top makes you temporarily faster.
I used my reward to sneak into Jhelom and buy the best armor in the game. We'll be back at Jhelom before long.
