OceanX | Up-Close Encounter with a Sperm Whale @OceanX | Uploaded June 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
@kyle.roepke filmed this massive sperm whale off the coast of Timor Leste in Southeast Asia getting an unexpected close-up of the marine mammal. The whale was seen with two young calves, guiding them between deep dives.
Sperm whales migrate throughout their lives and are found in all deep oceans. They routinely dive 2,000 feet deep, though they have been known to go even deeper.
The rake marks or scars that you see on the sperm whale’s skin are teeth marks often left by orcas, other sperm whales, and even sharks.
