Thailand is drowning in plastic; the communities living beside its petrochemical industry are paying the price with their health.
In Rayong Province, the heart of Thailand's plastic and petrochemical industry, local communities live with illness, environmental degradation, and collapsing fish populations. But this is not just a local story.
Unmasked reveals how plastic pollution affects every level of Thai society, from frontline communities beside petrochemical complexes to ordinary citizens exposed to hazardous chemicals found in soil, dust, and human blood. It also exposes the "false solutions" being promoted in place of real change: recycling and waste-to-energy schemes that carry serious environmental costs of their own. But these schemes ignore a crucial truth. The harm caused by plastic begins long before it's discarded. It starts at the point of production.
