Step-by step instructions to use a focus target chart:

1) Stabilize your camera on a tripod or flat surface so your focus can remain constant.

2) Put the chart flat in front of your camera head on. It should be well lit. Don’t hand hold it as even slight variations of distance will affect a shallow depth of field. You don’t want any movement when you’re trying to focus your camera.

3) Check if your camera lens has a consistently sharp focus across the frame or if it becomes blurry in certain areas of the chart.

4) Take and image of the chart so you can study the focus on the lines of the chart carefully on a larger screen if needed.

5) Rack focus in and out until the focus is just the way you want it. You can also go into the focus settings of your camera to make adjustments.

6) Take another picture and adjust as needed. Go back into the menu and repeat the steps as needed.
