Back in 2013, I designed a relatively unique grip and release mechanism for water rockets (see youtu.be/CvUYewajVzA). We subsequently tested this mechanism during a series of test launches with relative success. A few failures were experienced where the bottle either got stuck or released prematurely, but the majority of times it worked fine, proving that this system has potential.
