For parents of children with undiagnosed conditions like Laura and Dave, the unknown is both heartbreaking and exhausting. In this follow-up video, we dive into the Undiagnosed Hackathon, a global initiative led by the Wilhelm Foundation, where scientists and researchers collaborate to solve the diagnostic mysteries of rare diseases.

With the support of cutting-edge technology, including HiFi long-read genome sequencing, the hackathon brought together over 100 experts to analyze 42 cases. For 10 families, years of uncertainty finally ended with an answer—a genetic breakthrough that had been out of reach until now.

While not all mysteries were solved, the spirit of the hackathon highlights the resilience of families and the determination of the scientific community. Advances in genomic technology are uncovering new insights, bringing us closer to understanding the complexity of rare diseases and offering hope to those still waiting.
