CAN COMPUTE SAVE AN ONSEN, REVITALIZE A REGION, AND HELP TRANSFORM JAPAN?
That is the question behind YUMORI.me / Project eSingularity at the former Sukatto Land Kuzuryu in Fukui.
An abandoned public onsen is scheduled for demolition. Instead of accepting demolition as the only option, YUMORI.me is asking whether a new economic model has become possible because of something that barely existed when the City previously considered reuse:
AI compute.
The proposal is to investigate whether the site can combine:
Onsen + AI Compute + Education + Research + Entrepreneurship + Agriculture + Culture + Tourism
into a new regional economic engine.
The compute infrastructure is the productive foundation.
In the long term, regional “AI rice fields” could provide locally produced compute for open-source AI models, with commercial use helping make compute inexpensive—and potentially free—for local schools, university students, researchers and community projects.
The existing onsen could become the physical center of that ecosystem.
Its upper floors are envisioned as an eSingularity Lab, where students, entrepreneurs and researchers use advanced AI systems to create businesses, conduct research and solve regional problems.
What makes the experiment unusual is that it is already happening.
A single monk, working with advanced AI and a small volunteer preparatory committee, is using computation to analyze economics, research policy, build financial models, develop technical concepts, communicate in Japanese, contact experts, organize stakeholders and challenge a ¥1.5-billion-scale demolition decision.
In other words:
Compute is not merely being proposed as part of the future project. Compute is already being used to create the project.

The monk is not intended to be the center of the story.
The real subject is what becomes possible when an ordinary individual has access to frontier computation.
The larger eSingularity question is:
If one person can use AI this way, what happens when 100 students, founders and researchers are doing it simultaneously inside a regional innovation laboratory?
That is the model we want to test in Fukui—and eventually make reproducible across Japan.
What We Are Doing Today
Today the immediate objective is convening, not winning an argument.
YUMORI.me is preparing a direct letter to Fukui Mayor Shigeru Saigyō, with the formal YUMORI.me Preparatory Committee request attached.
The request is straightforward:
Before the demolition process becomes irreversible, bring the relevant parties together and examine the alternative.
We are asking for a meeting involving the Mayor, Councilman Sano, the responsible City technical officials, YUMORI.me and other appropriate stakeholders.
The financial assumptions are being made publicly reviewable through fin.YUMORI.info. The proposal is not that the numbers are automatically correct. The proposal is that they should be tested.
At the same time, we are reaching out to leading people in AI, computing, universities, research, business and media and asking them to examine the same question critically.
Not:
“Please support the monk.”
But:
“Please examine the evidence. Challenge the assumptions. Tell Fukui whether this possibility deserves to be investigated before the asset is destroyed.”
This is therefore becoming a live demonstration of the eSingularity thesis itself:
advanced computation helping humans organize knowledge, capital, technology and community around a real problem—and turning an apparently obsolete asset into a possible platform for creating new economic value.
The question remains open.
