This is a live broadcast from Fukui, Japan, with the monk UnDaoDu, known in Japan as 九頭竜 泰澄 (Kuzuryū Taichō), documenting the effort to stop the demolition of the former Sukatto Land Kuzuryu public onsen and ask for one thing before an irreversible decision: investigate the alternative.

For nearly 30 years, Sukatto Land Kuzuryu served families, visitors and the surrounding community. In FY2018 alone, nearly 130,000 people used the facility. Today, Fukui City is moving toward demolition, with an estimated demolition cost of approximately ¥1.58 billion.
旧すかっとランド九頭竜は、約30年にわたり、市民、家族、観光客、地域の人々に利用されてきました。2018年度だけでも約13万人が利用しています。現在、福井市では約15.8億円とされる解体に向けた動きが進んでいます。
But this is not only about saving an old onsen.
Project eSingularity asks a larger question: does Japan need to demolish its way into the future, or can existing public infrastructure be transformed for the AI age?
しかし、これは単に「古い温泉を残す」という話ではありません。
Project eSingularityが問いかけているのは、「日本は古いものを壊し続けなければ未来へ進めないのか。それとも、すでにある公共資産をAI時代の新しい地域インフラへ生まれ変わらせることができるのか」ということです。
AI needs compute. Think of a data center as a rice field for AI. A rice field produces 米 (kome), which becomes ご飯 (gohan) for people. A data center produces compute—the “gohan” consumed by AI.
AIには計算資源（コンピュート）が必要です。データセンターを「AIのための田んぼ」と考えてください。田んぼから米が生まれ、人のご飯になるように、データセンターからコンピュートが生まれ、AIを動かします。
Our proposal is COGDC — Community-Owned Green Data Centers: small, modular regional compute infrastructure designed first for the community that hosts it.
構想しているCOGDC（Community-Owned Green Data Center／地域所有型グリーンデータセンター）は、巨大な施設を地域に押しつけるものではありません。小さく始め、地域の需要と利益に合わせて成長する、地域のための計算基盤です。
At Sukatto Land, that could mean combining the onsen with regional AI compute, education, research, startup incubation, autonomous agriculture, robotics, tourism, food, culture and—where engineering proves it practical—reuse of data-center heat for hot water, heating, snow melting or other community needs.
旧すかっとランド九頭竜では、温泉、地域AI、教育、研究、起業、自動化農業、ロボティクス、観光、食、文化を一つの地域拠点として結び、技術的に可能であれば、データセンターの廃熱を給湯、暖房、融雪などに循環させる可能性も検証します。
The future company may not be 100 people in a Tokyo office. It may be two young people in Fukui working with AI, solving a local problem, testing it here, forming a company here, and eventually taking that solution across Japan and the world.
未来の会社は、東京のオフィスに100人が集まる会社だけではありません。福井にいる若者二人とAIが地域の課題を解決し、ここで実証し、ここで会社をつくり、その解決策を日本全国、そして世界へ広げることもできる時代です。
If young people must leave their hometown to access the infrastructure of the future, eventually the hometown disappears. So bring the infrastructure of the future to them.
未来のインフラを求めて若者が故郷を離れ続ければ、いつか故郷そのものが消えてしまいます。
ならば、未来のインフラを故郷につくればいい。
